"Madame Le Chat" by Jamielynn DaVault

"Madame Le Chat" by Jamielynn DaVault

A new challenge for me last year was this armature doll. Pattern by Stephanie Novatski. I've made over 100 cloth dolls, but never a full armature before. I created my own little mouse with matching outfit (instead of the store bought mouse the pattern called for). I added a tiny little metal "pooper scooper" to the faux pearl mouse leash. What ladies they both are!

"Oceanna Blue" by Maria Buckner

"Oceanna Blue" by   Maria Buckner

This is "Oceanna Blue", Deanna's Muse. This is my third attempt, made for my daughter, Deanna's birthday, from Bonnie B. Lewis' & Mary Ann Kaahanui's patterns, "A Doll for All Seasons", & "Merina, Bearing Gifts From the Sea."

I made the tyvek seaweed to use in the backdrop, which also included some floral spanish moss I had & a "sea fan" floral decoration I bought & reworked to give the doll stand an "ocean look." I also put "sticky-felt" cut to fit the base, & glued Florida (our home state) beach sand, shells,& coral rock (collected through the years) to the base. My husband found the "treasure chest"& little seahorse figurine online.

I was thrilled to be able to include some little treasures for our daughter in the chest!
"Oceanna Blue's" tail was made from the sequined bodice on my daughter's prom dress
overlaid on a lighter sea-blue, "wrinkly", silk-like remnant & various beads & jewelry trinkets. I had fun making "Oceanna Blue" & rekindling old memories!

They are versions of three Barbara Schoenoff patterns, Budgie, Finn Darian of Golden Meadows, Shar Lillia of Sylvan Shadows. I clothed Finn Darian and Shar Lillian using Babara's clothing pattern. Then created another version of Shar Lillia using my own technique. I used a crocheted handkerchief for Budgie's diaper and shawl.

Julie

Doll Made by

Maria Buckner
Raleigh, N.C.

This is "Julie," made for & named by my granddaughter. I used Mary Ann Kaahanui & Bonnie B. Lewis' "A Doll for All Seasons" doll pattern & the January "Snow Queen" pattern (adapted to use materials on hand/ old velvets, scraps of lace, etc. ; scraps of soft leather for shoes). This is my first doll of this type. Made lots of mistakes but had fun! Plan to make more. I have made cloth children's dolls for my daughter & granddaughter in past years.

Amethyst

Doll Made by

Maria Buckner
Raleigh, N.C.

This is my 2nd "Doll for All Seasons" doll (by Mary Ann Kaahanui & Bonnie B. Lewis). I used this great pattern to make "Amethyst, the Lavender Faerie" for my sister-in-law, who loves lavender! I also used part of the pattern for Mary Ann & Bonnie's "Adriana, Springtime Faerie!" I included the picture of Amethyst' sandals because I was happier with how her toes turned out this time. Thought they were kind of cute!

Dolls Made by   Lesley Cameron

A little while ago I submitted a picture of my very first doll - one which I had made into a bride. Now that I have the doll-making bug, I wondered if you might like to see my second creation. She is a wire, wrapped doll, again from Ray Slater's 'Cloth Dolls for Textile Artists' book. I stuck to the pattern for the wire armature, but then had lots of fun dressing her in my own style! I made a turban for her (as I didn't have any doll hair), embroidered her face, used a chiffon scarf for her dress, and then scattered a few handmade roses on her.

I hope that you enjoy seeing her picture, and thank you for your completely addictive website!

Barbara Willis' book Cloth Doll Artistry

Dolls Made by   Juanelle Strickland Marshall

I used the Danielle doll pattern from Barbara Willis' book Cloth Doll Artistry to make these dolls. I haven't mastered the face sculpting yet so I just made painted faces. I made four for my girlfriends in celebration of us all truning 60 , and one for my sister who recently had a birthday.  It is a great way to use up dressmaking scraps and craft embellishments.  I have several more to make and I will definitely be using this pattern again.  I'm still searching for various skin shades.  The chairs are from Warehouse Craft Supplies at $33.52 per dozen and are very well made.

Pattern by Susan Barmore

Dolls Made by   CK Garred

I am a newbie to the whole fabric doll designs. I have been making my own version of worry-dolls for years but wanted to branch out into the while fabric and soft-sculpture dolls. The doll is from a pattern by Susan Barmore. It is of her "Tish" doll.

Her name is Melaine and she is cute lil bedeviled fey. I use yarn for her hair and fabric scraps I had on hand to make her outfit. Her wings are made out of Angelina Film, microbeads, and glitter. She was a joy to learn and make and now she has a home with my mother who claimed her as soon as she was done!

I've named the doll "Dance like it's 1980 again!". She is from Jill Maas' pattern "Dancing Doris". The hair is Tibetan lamb, the shoes are key chains and the clothing is from recycled finds at the local thrift store. I love Jill's designs & thoroughly enjoyed making this doll!!!

These are my first attempts at doll making and I love it!

The first three (above) are made from Cindee Moyer's pattern "Beatrice". I never did make Beatrice but came up with many different versions of the pattern. I call them "big bottomed gals"!

The next photos (below) are from a pattern from Patti Culea's Creative Cloth Doll Making book.

I am from Michigan and took sewing lessons in March just so I could make Beatrice. I keep on going because it is so much fun to imagine and create all these wonderful faces and clothing. Thank you for providing such a wonderful website with such great artists and patterns!

Beth Beglin

Doll Made by   Beth Beglin
of Western Australia

She is Sonja - Witch of the Forest by Sylvia Schorr.
I am a beginner doll maker and she is the third doll that I have made, I live country Western Australia so used fabrics that I had on hand. Her dress and hat are black felt and her blouse and slip are of light weight cotton, and her pumpkin is felt. Her body is pale pink homespun. I used watercolour pencils on her face and followed Patti Culeas advice on facial drawing and colouring. She was a challenge and there are plenty of mistakes but I love the end result.

I am a novice to the world of cloth art dolls, but wanted to share with you two photos of my first cloth art doll called Willow.   I became interested in the art when I went looking for a book on how to make curtains, and fell in love with Patti Medaris Culea's books: Cloth Doll Making and Creative Cloth Doll Faces.

Willow is created from a pattern in the Creative Cloth Doll Faces book.  I am now working on my third doll! It's become an addiction and a passion!

MEMORIES (remembering sixty years of marriage)
This loving elderly couple is completely hand-made by the artist, with the exception of the bench and their glasses. Both figures are made of cloth, with general and facial needlesculpting. Their faces were drawn by the artist. The hair on both is Tibetan lambs wool, needle felted onto the head and beard. All clothing and the shoes are also hand-made by the artist.
This is a rendition of Bonnie and Mary Ann's pattern.

" Rachel's Tears"
Made by
Estelle Katz

I used a Doll for all Seasons as the basic body pattern, with her head tilted a little and altered her arms so that they would be reaching.  The outift is something that I designed.  Actually, as is usually the case, it sort of worked itself out as I went along.  I did some research on what the clothing looked like in 2000BCE.  Actually one of the best references was an illustrated children's bible.  Lots of pictures.  With the knowledge I gained as a guide in an early Canadian Museum and knowing the climate she lived in I knew she would be dressed in linen.  It is easily grown and spun like wool.  I bought several colours of linen but found that It didn't drape well on the size she is for a head covering.  Have no idea what I used.  Might actually be a piece of silk left over from a painting.  The dress has a drawstring at the neck which was supposed to be tied in the back.  The beads looked so good that I put them in the front.  Something again left over from a project that was the right colour.  Her sandals are soft foam, which I like for shoes.  She is sitting at my daughter's in Toronto, Ontario as that is where the challenge will be and she is totally amazed how realistic her shoes are.
